Muslims in France express support for suicide bombers in a 2006 PEW survey.
A PEW research published a study in 2007 under the name Muslim Americans Middle Class and Mostly Mainstream (Released May 22, 2007). It revealed that a large number of Muslims in the West support suicide bombings (mass murders). The numbers are probably much higher today.
Muslims in the age group 18-29 and 30 and older was asked whether they felt suicide bombings (mass murders) was justified.
They had four options in their answers: Ever (NET) Justified, Often or Sometimes Justified, Rarely Justified and the total rejection to suicide bombings with Never Justified.
Of the Muslims surveyed in France whether suicide bombings were justified (supported) the participants of 18-29 year olds responded:
Ever Justified (NET) 42%
Often or Sometimes Justified 19%
Rarely Justified 23%
Never Justified 57%
When French Muslims from the ages 30 and beyond got surveyed and asked the same question they responded by:
Ever Justified (NET) 31%
Often or Sometimes Justified 15%
Rarely Justified 16%
Never Justified 69%
Of the total combined Muslims surveyed from ages 18-29 year old’s in France, 42% felt suicide bombings were justified in either most or some cases, while 31% of the over 30’s felt suicide bombings were often or sometimes justified. In other words that’s a lot of support for suicide bombers in a population of 5-6 million Muslims in France. If we add these figures to the total Muslim population to give a general idea, at least 1.55 million Muslims felt suicide bombings were justified.
Not exactly a trivial number by a small minority of the Muslim population.
Suicide Bombings to Defend Islam
Of the Muslims surveyed whether suicide bombings were justified (supported) the participants responded:
Often or Sometimes Justified 16%
Rarely Justified 19%
NET support for suicide bombings 35%
One interesting revelation in the survey collected by PEW on page 106 is that only 3% of the Muslims responding to the survey considered themselves conservative. In other words, the majority support for suicide bombings was approved by so called ‘moderate’ Muslims.
Millions of French Muslims support suicide bombings
According to the French Government, which does not have a right to ask direct questions about religion and uses a criterion of people’s geographic origin as a basis for calculation, there were between 5 to 6 million Muslims in metropolitan France in 2010. The government counted all those people in France who migrated from countries with a dominant Muslim population, or whose parents did. Only 33% of those 5 to 6 million people (2 million) said they were practicing believers. That figure is the same as that obtained by the INED/INSEE study in October 2010.
