Poll: 80% of Palestinians support unprovoked lone-wolf terror attacks on Israeli civilians

The London-based rights group Amnesty International said Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2014, that Israel apparently committed war crimes when it flattened four landmark buildings during its military operation in the Gaza Strip last summer. JERUSALEM (AP) — An overwhelming majority of Palestinians support a recent spate of attacks on Israelis amid heightened tensions over the most sensitive holy site in Jerusalem, according to an opinion poll released Tuesday.

The poll also found that more than half of Palestinians support a new uprising against Israel, and that the Hamas militant group would win presidential elections if they were held today.

Palestinian pollster Khalil Shikaki said the results reflected Palestinian anger over Israeli statements about the Jerusalem holy site, which is revered by Jews and Muslims, as well as a loss of hope following the collapse of U.S.-brokered peace talks and Israel’s recent war with Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

The Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research interviewed 1,270 people in the West Bank and Gaza last week. The poll had an error margin of 3 percentage points.

“There is an environment in which violence is becoming a dominant issue,” said Shikaki. “This seems to be one of the most important driving forces.”

There has been a spate of attacks in Jerusalem over the past month and a half, at a time of rising tensions over the contested holy site, revered by Muslims as Noble Sanctuary and by Jews as the Temple Mount.

Prominent members of Israel’s government have become more vocal in recent months about demands that Jews be allowed to pray at the Muslim-run site, which is home to the Al Aqsa Mosque and iconic Dome of the Rock.

Many Palestinians fear this is a pretext for a gradual Jewish takeover — a claim Israel denies.

The poll found 86 percent of respondents believe the shrine is in grave danger from Israel. It said 80 percent supported individual attacks by Palestinians who have stabbed Israelis or rammed cars into crowded train stations.

In London, the international human rights group Amnesty International said Tuesday that Israel apparently committed war crimes when it flattened four landmark buildings during the Gaza operation. It said the airstrikes amounted to “the deliberate targeting of civilian objects.”

Israel says the buildings were Hamas command centers. It dismissed the report as “unfounded.”

  1. … the Hamas militant group would win presidential elections if they were held today.

Okay, hold the election, win, then restart the fighting. This time, there is to be no negotiated ceasefire. Fighting continues until every last combatant on the losing side is dead; no prisoners. Then the population represented by the losing side withdraws from both the West Bank and Gaza, never in history to return.

    • Well said. History has taught us that the only thing these muslims respect is submission to fear and violence. Reasoning with them is pointless. They deceive at every opportunity and renege on all agreements.

  2. The Israelis are not innocent in any which way and whilst I do not condone violence from either side I do understand the Palestinian point of view – Israel uses a trained army, Palestine uses terrorists as their soldiers.
Sadly it is a problem that I doubt will ever be solved until one side is dead or ruled by force by the other.

    • But Israeli’s never tried to establish a worldwide caliphate – which is the origin of the conflict there. Palestinians don’t come from the area at all and never lost any land. The land was barren. It had no water so it was basically not liveable. This battle is about Islamic religious racism.
Had we said this a few years ago people would believe it to be completely nonsense, but Isis proves this ideology to be prevalent constantly within Islam.

      • Well said. I’m tired of people trying to classify palestinian terrorists as something different to islamists terrorists. They all sprang from the muslim brotherhood and are essentially the same thing. Any war on terror is pointless if palestinians are not included as the enemy and Israel included as nothing less than valued friends and allies.

Lets be honest here. If the palestinians wanted, they could become Israeli citizens tomorrow and enjoy the benefits of a civilised western democracy. The truth is, they don’t want it.
